Why Impact and Engagement?

Cummins Behavioral Health Systems, Inc. aims to center diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of daily work.

A strong commitment to learning and understanding allows our organization to value cultural humility and accountability to all people. Respecting and acknowledging others’ experiences that are different from our own guides our personal and professional behavior in establishing a culture of inclusion and belonging. We seek to correct power imbalances through overcoming the influence of institutional, systemic, and historical influences of inequity.

Cummins Behavioral Health is dedicated to the enhancement of cultural knowledge and awareness for all. To achieve this commitment, Cummins will develop and maintain a high performing workforce that delivers culturally responsive services, improves outcomes for the individuals we serve, and reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.

Cummins' Impact and Engagement model also ensures that our organization meets national CLAS standards for culturally and linguistically appropriate services.

Cummins Impact & Engagement Model

Impact & Engagement Model

Governance and Representation

Cummins is dedicated to supporting policies, procedures, and hiring practices that support our diverse staff. As an employer, we offer opportunities to people of all demographics and strive for our hiring practices to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. (CLAS standards addressed: 2, 3, 9)

Inclusion and Belonging

Cummins aims to create an inclusive culture where all employees are welcome and are able to contribute to the organization. Cummins understands the impact that internal inclusion and belonging can have on service delivery and our ability to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services. (CLAS standards addressed: 4, 10, 11)

Consumer Impact

Cummins is committed to ensuring that all consumers have access to behavioral health services that meet their individual needs. We aim to bridge the gap by serving everyone, including those from underserved demographic groups. (CLAS standards addressed: 5, 6, 7, 8, 14)

Community Engagement

Cummins is committed to engaging the community in which we live and work. We focus on supporting and collaborating with other organizations to create a greater awareness about the behavioral health needs of our community. (CLAS standards addressed: 12, 13, 15)

Impact and Engagement Committee

Cummins’ dedication to providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS services) is upheld through the work of our Impact and Engagement Committee.

This diversity-centered committee focuses on providing support, guidance, and equity insight to the organization. Its members range from executive leadership to consumer-facing direct service professionals.

The Impact and Engagement Committee is dedicated to creating inclusivity both inside of Cummins within our workplace culture and externally in the communities that we serve.

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)

As part of our commitment to employee inclusion and belonging, Cummins offers four Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that staff members may choose to join. The purpose of these groups is to encourage inclusivity and belonging throughout our organization, especially among groups that historically have experienced marginalization in the workplace.

All ERG groups are open to every staff member within Cummins. Staff do not have to be a member of any particular demographic to participate.

Black and African Descent Group

The Black and African Descent ERG aims to create an environment that fosters organizational inclusion and provides opportunities for black employees to network, engage in cultural events, participate in community service, and host or attend social gatherings.

Caregivers Group

The Caregivers ERG is a safe place to collaborate and connect with others that have shared experiences. We exchange knowledge and support others (whether they are currently a caregiver or not) to gain an understanding of the caregiver role. We want anyone to feel welcome to join our group to hear about and learn about caregiving.

LGBTQIA+ Group

The LGBTQIA+ ERG offers a safe and supportive place for LGBTQIA+ employees to connect, coordinate events, and share LGBTQIA-friendly resources. We also provide education about LGBTQIA+ experiences for members who may not personally identify but who wish to act as allies.

Mental Health and Wellness Group

The Mental Health and Wellness ERG provides resources, education, and a safe space for open dialogue to reduce stigma, promote self-care, advocate for change, and ensure every member has the support they need to thrive both personally and professionally.
