About Services

Cummins provides services to all individuals regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or disability. Persons age 18 or older may self-refer for treatment; for persons under the age of 18, a legal guardian may request treatment.

We work with third party payers such as Medicaid, Medicare and Tricare as well as other organizationally-approved payers. Persons seeking services may also pay for treatment out-of-pocket utilizing the organizational sliding scale.

The goal of recovery treatment is to assist the person served in improving life-functioning that has been impacted by the effects of a mental illness or substance use disorder. Cummins establishes best practice models, guidelines, and rehabilitation treatments commensurate with national evidence-based practices.

Principles of Care

The following principles inform our approach to all services we provide:

Health Integration

Cummins seeks to address the whole-health needs of the person served, including behavioral health as well as physical health needs.

Family Resiliency

Our treatments are designed to increase resiliency of the family system by identifying individual and group strengths, creating hope, and finding solutions that amplify positive characteristics.

Recovery Model

Cummins utilizes the Wellness and Recovery Model, developed through the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), to guide all clinical decision-making. This model of recovery advocates for a high-quality and satisfying experience for all individuals, including those with mental illness and substance use disorders.

Integrated Treatment

Persons with more than one mental health or substance use disorder diagnosis receive treatment from a single provider organization, using a single treatment plan, from a common team of providers. Integrated treatment is customized to each person served, providing those served with the knowledge, structure, and support needed to achieve a lifetime of recovery.

Trauma-Informed Care Approach

Our staff is trained to recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in persons served, understand the impact of trauma on the recovery process, and actively resist re-traumatization during treatment.

Risk-Informed Treatment and Suicide Prevention

We maintain procedures to limit risk of injury or distress to persons under our care. Individuals with high risk behaviors work closely with providers to identify treatment goals that reduce risk vulnerabilities and increase positive coping skills. At the same time, we implement suicide prevention evidence-based practices with all persons served.

Service Programs

Adult Recovery Program

The Adult Recovery Program is designed for persons 18 and older with a diagnosis of one or more severe and persistent mental illnesses. Individualized services incorporate the person served, their families, other natural supports, behavioral health providers, medical providers, employment specialists, peer recovery specialists, and other community partners in the person’s recovery.

Youth & Family Program

The Youth and Family Resiliency Program serves children and adolescents, ages 5-18, with serious emotional and behavioral problems in the context of the family system. Additionally, some school-based programs serve preschool-aged youth (2-5) and their families.

Lifelong Recovery Program

More persons entering services have co-occurring substance use and mental health challenges as compared to persons with just a substance use diagnosis. Therefore, the Lifelong Recovery program is designed, from the ground up, to accommodate people who have Substance Use Disorders in addition to other mental health diagnoses. The program considers both substance use disorder and mental health issues simultaneously through various intensities of treatment.

Medical Services Program

Through the coordinated efforts of staff psychiatrists, advanced practice nurses, certified medical assistants and a program director, Cummins offers pharmacotherapy (medication treatment) to all persons across the life span when indicated at all of our outpatient offices.

CCBHC Service Program

The Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) model is founded on person-centered treatment, care coordination and integration, evidence-based practice, and prompt access to care, including 24/7 crisis response. Cummins is a federally-designated CCBHC in Hendricks County and offers CCBHC services to any individual who needs them at our Avon office, regardless of the person’s county of residence or ability to pay for services.
